Steam Roller owned by William Wheatley
One of the 23 steam rollers owned by William Wheatley ( Wickham) Ltd. The rollers would be contracted out for work to local councils to do long periods of work on road building. The rollers would leave with a small caravan towed behind and a motorbike to enable the worker to be able to have transport where he would be working. They would often go to work for periods of six months. In the early 1950’s, sadly, all of the steam rollers were cut up and crapped to make room for more modern equipment.
